The biggest mistake a lot of people do when it comes to wedding-related-financial-planning is to perceived the wedding to be the happy ending to a love story when really, its a beginning for a life-long commitment.

They tend to throw all their effort and money to accomplished this. Please people. Be wise. Think deep. Stop relating yourself to all the movies and drama series that you have been watching repeatedly. You are not Cinderella. And you certainly aren't marrying Prince Charming.

Marriage doesn't ends when the wedding reception is over. In fact, as people are packing up and cleaning up the wedding hall, that's the exact point of which marks the commencement of a new chapter in one's life. Yes, it is just a new chapter - there's more to come. Having a baby opens up another chapter. Another baby and yet another chapter. Switching jobs, buying a home, upgrading your ride, moving states - these are all important part of one's life, significant enough for a new episode in his "book".

Another common mistake (or probably lack of knowledge) is the inability to tell apart fund-availability to affordability. If you have rm50k available in your hand, I will strongly suggest you spend no more than rm15k for your wedding. That's what I call affordability. Having rm50k does not entitle you to spend it all for a wedding. I call that stupid. What's even more stupid is to spend rm50k when you only have rm30k in hand. I call that brainless.

Its like going for a full month road trip to Europe. Everyone dream of it. They save money that lasts them for the whole journey. Accommodations, meals, sightseeing tours, souvenirs, transportation, clothes etc. Stupid person will work their butt-off and when he gets enough fund, he spend it all on a first class air ticket to London. I don't need to discuss furthermore. You could guess what happen next, I supposed?

So girls, before you even start picturing your fairy-tale wedding, please asses your affordability and be smart. Practice balance. Why spend 100% on a day that counts for only 1% of the whole journey?

Been wanting to post something here since forever. But iv been really busy lately... with... hmmm... stuffs.. Hishhhh, nampak sangat nak tipu.

I have a lot in mind to write, but when id actually logged in to Blogger and attempted to write, the mood's just gone. Writing is not my thing anymore. (As if it was EVER my thing. Teeeeheeeee :p )

Lets start with the easy thing.

New year celebration :)

New year's eve was just lazying around with hubby, watching TV. Thought of watching countdown on TV but we both made our journey to lalaland as soon as the fireworks went off. Such an old couple aiye..

We started the year 2011 visiting my grandparents who came all the way from Alor Star. We then rushed to KL General Hospital to see little cousin who's one weeks old, still warded due to some complications. As always, grandpa had a glimpse of baby Ashraff and "Ok la, dah tengok, jom kita balik". Hehehhehehe.

Short meet up. Everyone took different directions afterwards.

Since we were in KL already, as always, its "dating day". Hik hik hik.

Thinking the mall's gonna be empty, as everyone's still making up sleep for the late night celebration the day before, we headed to One Utama. Boy we were sooooooooo wrong. It was busy as always. Probably busier. Theres a hell of a crowd in The Curve too. Determined to proceed with the "date", we took a turn and went to the not-so-posh mall, Tropicana City. That place is never busy i guess.. Good enough for us :)

This is when things get excited! No dirty thinking please.

I had so much new year's gift! Weeeeeeeeeeeehoooooooooooo~!!

Went into a camera shop, thinking of just showing hubby the camera I wanted to buy, to replace my DSLR I sold two months back. Least that I know they had a promotion that day. A lot cheaper price then other places I've been. So yeah.... I GOT MYSELF SONY NEX-5 y'all~!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, while thinking whether or not I should get the camera, we went coffee-date at Starbucks :) Of which, I had the last stamp on the starbucks card and yeah, I GOT THE STARBUCKS PLANNER! Not that exciting I know, but I was excited anywaysssssss. Hehehehe. Gave the planner to hubby since I havent been using a planner the moment I was unemployed.

With the purchase of camera, they gave a free 25-pages printed photo album. Lucky I had my micro-mini USB thumbdrive everywhere, we had our honeymoon photos printed. Weeeeeeeehoooooooooooooo~!!!

Hubby got himself a new shorts for working out. Glad he found one. A lil expensive but its not easy finding a size for american-built here in Malaysia. To actually scored one was a bliss. YEAY!

So yeah, new year was good :)

p/s: Lil boy's coming in less than a month. YEAY! New toy to play with :D

So.... BF in motherhood term means breastfeed. And yes, I only knew that recently. Hehehehehehhe.

For those who doesn't know, let me do some enlightenment :D

You know how people are very health conscious nowadays. Going towards environmentally-friendly society. Recycling, energy saving bulbs, hybrid cars, Earth Hour, and so forth.

Even with baby products (again, i only knew this) there's a range of products which are chemical-free, toxic-free, made of natural resources. There's cloth diaper (CD) with is basically a technologically-advanced version of lampin-putih-yg-masam-zaman-kite-kecik2-dulu. This definitely reduces non-biodegradable waste of the normal disposable diapers.

Anyways.....

The main point of this entry is on exclusive breastfeeding. Another step of my generation towards all-natural way of living. Most hospitals promotes exclusive BF for new moms. They even have guidebook on how to continue exclusive BF if mommies need to go back to work after maternity leave. This includes products on express milk storage.

Exclusive BF as recommended by WHO and UNICEF:

Initiation of breastfeeding within the first hour of life
Exclusive breastfeeding – that is the infant only receives breastmilk without any additional food or drink, not even water
Breastfeeding on demand – that is as often as the child wants, day and night
No use of bottles, teats or pacifiers

One thing that many people doesn't know is that baby doesn't need anything else when breastfed except the mommies' milk, and when i said nothing else, that means NOTHING ELSE. Not even air suam. Yes, no water, people!

I was stalking some cousins and second-cousins on facebook. Wasn't interested to add them as friends - I don't approve/add kids on fb. FYI, "kids" in this context means those without IC and still studying for UPSR. I'm keen to know what kids do on fb. They don't go anywhere without supervision - so they can't upload photos of where they go everyday. They don't drive. They can't watch cool movies cos they're minors.

Anyway....

That has got nothing to do with what caught me today.

I saw this one cousin's photos. She's a kid. She's 9 i think. And she has one album of which she puts on photos of her growing up. Its called "Gambar Semasa Kecil".

I was browsing for baby clothes and such online. Find them a lot cheaper. Scored myself a set of 5 Nike baby rompers for just rm30. And a set of 4 Carter's baby rompers and 6 pair of socks for rm44. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee~!!

Then I stumbled upon these cool socks for boys. And I though... hmmmm... these aren't too bad. They have cute stuffs for boys too.

Of all things I am, one that im sure im not is a fashionista.

I just can't.

Some people have issues where their inferiority gets over them and.......

"Owh I'm not pretty enough to wear those dress"

"Owh my legs are not long enough for the skinny jeans"

"Owh I have huge bottom and my chest are too small for the super nice kebaya"

"Owh I'm too chesty for the nice fancy t-shirt"

As for me, I never think I'm too big to get dress up. Neither do I think I'm too short or too rounded or too wide or anything T_________T

But my problem is. Everytime I wear pretty dress, or pretty top, or pretty skirt, or pretty whatever.. I looked in the mirror and say "I look too nice and I can't go shopping/uni/lunch/dinner like this. This is overdressed."

Gosh.

How could anyone ever have that thought.

Same goes to fancy scarves. Of which I means tudung/selendang. Not those neck scarves and mufflers. Ko ingat malaysia ade salji ke? And I wonder where mat rempit came from. They always in jumper, jacket, snow cap, and yes, muffler sometimes @___@

I saw all nice shawls everywhere - shops, kiosks, markets, and even blogshops.They are just too nice I can't put them on. Hehehehe. And the way they are worn nowadays, again, too nice too pretty. And very complex too. Complexity level is ..... kalau tibe2 rambut terkeluar sikit pastu nak betulkan tudung, kena cari toilet dan suruh kawan/boifren/suami pegi makan dulu, baru siap. Atau kalau nak pegi solat kat shopping mall, dan nak amek wudhu' yg kena bukak tudung pasal tudung mahal takleh kena air, boleh la suruh kawan/boifren/suami baca wirid panjang2 atau solat sunat tasbih dulu.

I find Malaysian society to be super sensitive. And to be sorry, all the sensitivity are not being utilized at the right situation, on the right person, neither it is on the right time.

Back in the early 90's or late 80's (not too sure bout the timeline, correct me if im wrong), the whole rockband of Wings was publicly getting a haircut by a government minister, cause they said the image of a rockband - those torn tshirt and super skinny jeans and long hair, has bad impact on the society. Seriously. Takkan rockers nak pakai tuxedo rambut gel penuh, belah tepi. Kecoh.

In late 90's, remember Gil? The cousin of boyband Moffats? He looks pretty much like Rody from Kristal. Muka jambu with long sliky straight hair. Government made him wore a cap/beret to cover his long hair when he did a tour to Malaysia. Reason being, the long hair image is not a good reflection of a decent Malay culture. Kamon la babeh, lagu dia jiwang, stok jiwa2 boleh kawan ngan Dafi AF kot. Again. Kecoh.

Recently, i was just reading Fynn Jamal's blog. People was criticizing one of her song. Saying the lyrics could lead to unwedded sex and baby dumping. I went to listen to that song. And i remember saying to myself "Really?". Doesnt sound out-of-ordinary, doesnt sound unethical at all. Its just a simple song with simple lyrics. Kecoh.

Oh, talking bout songs. Malaysian society again, dengan bersungguh-sungguh, analyse (as detail as anything could get) few stupid songs and link it to Jewish/Illuminati/Satan. Like really. They watch every milisecond of the video and check every single word of the lyrics. One that i could remember was "Asareje" by Las Ketchup. Cam bodoh sgt je lagu tu. Kecoh.

I feel like writing on customer service in Malaysia.

Quantity wise, I give 10/10. No other country has more labor than Malaysia does. We might have 10 times more CS reps as compared to any place elsewhere. Note the "might". I don't really know. Im just assuming. I might be exaggerating, like I always do.

Quality.... Hmmmmm.... I tried to give more than 5. I just couldn't. I couldn't even do more than 3. Its just pathetic.

AKH tak sedar dia hanyalah salesgirl. Mungkin belajar pon tahap SRP je. Gaji pon takde la mane sgt. Gelabah kena over.

Im not a big fan of cooking... Just thinking where's the best place to save recipes. Put it up on the blog would be handy :D For whatever reason, the recipe doesnt come in english :p

Ingredients:
(make 112 cookies)
- 2 cawan mentega
- 4 cawan tepung
- 2 sudu kecil baking soda
- 2 cawan gula
- 2 cawan gula merah
- 5 cawan oat - kisar dlm blender
- 1 sudu garam
- 4 biji telur
- 2 sudu kecil baking powder
- 2 sudu kecil esen vanila
- Chocolate chips - optional
- Cadbury bar - optional
- 3 cawan "chopped nuts" - optional

Directions:
Gaul mentega, gula dan gula merah.

Tambah telur dgn esen vanila.Gaul2 dulu lepas tu tambah dgn tepung, oat, garam, baking powder & baking soda.

Tambah chocolate chips dgn ape2 jenis kacang kalau nak letak.

Bentuk bulat kecil, jgn lama2 sgt nnt choc chips cair jadi tak cantik.

Letak atas tray - letak jauh2 skit pasal biskut tu akan jadi leper masa baking.

Bakar 10 minit - 375degree celcius

I couldn't write more when I did the initial "Birthday Wishes" post. So here's more. Elaboration from the initial pointless post :p

Technology's awesome. I cant imagine my life without facebook. I cant imagine myself applying for jobs, sending hundreds of copies of resume on snail mail. I cant imagine being so far away, not able to contact my loved ones. I cant imagine watching TV with 3 channels on, full of crappy dramas.

Oh well.. Maybe I can, but I refused to.

The world is getting smaller almost entirely a good thing. But hmmmm.... I think it gets meaningless over time.

Back in my school-ing days, we were still on film camera. Every shot counts since there's only 12, 24 or 36 shots available on one roll of films. To have it printed takes 3-4 days. It was kinda an exciting event to see the final product. 36 photos was all we had. But they all matters. Now, we have digital camera of which has a minimum capacity to store 1,000 photos; 36 shots only last u one pose at one place on one angle. So which of those 1,000 matters to u? Maybe less than 200 of them after flicking thru all of them for a million times. Hmmmmm....

Before mobile phones gets so mobile as it is right now, people were a lot more punctual. A meet up was as simple as fixing a date, time and venue, and turning up on the day. There's no mobile phone to tell the other person that we're going to be late. There's no room for delay. I think I stopped being punctual after awhile, because as much as I tried to be late, I will still be early. It gets annoying. I guess its easier to just follow the "technology" flow. Punctuality decrease as technology advancement increase. Shouldn't it suppose to be the other way around?

Do you remember the time pre-friendster-and-facebook era? Do you remember those biodata book and those fancy organizers you have? U have ur friends name and addresses, phone number, birth date all on that thing. ~~Owh and favorite food, drinks and color~~. Anyway... That time u would send cards for ur friends birthday. Its not an easy thing, so you would only send it to those that matters. A close friend. A real friend. A meaningful wish. So to actually get a card, is a thing. To have a friend remember ur birthday is enough of an appreciation.

When sms era starts, I was already annoyed. 30 text messages in one day with similar template messages. It was too easy. It wasn't as meaningful anymore. Well.. It gets worst today. 100 messages posted on ur wall in one day... because ur birth date is clearly posted on ur wall. I experimented people's reliance on friendster/facebook. Mentioned this in the previous post. Its proven. Even my roommate didn't remember my birth date. I remember Hudra and Shasha messaging me saying "I thought u were born in August, why does it say July 7th?". Thanks girls, I appreciate those :)

Its a bonus to have a program to remind us when's important dates are. I'm not really saying those wishes on ur profile wall do not matter. Just that I think, it would be better off be remembered for being part of someone else's life. To have ur day planted in someone's memory matters more. To hear a person's voice feels more "human" than to read a writing on a virtual space. At least for me...

Last day at office was September 30th 2009. Have been bergembira menghabiskan duit eversince. Man it has been a lil over 5 months. I’d underestimate myself. I thought I would have 2 months of pure nothingness and I’ll be bored to death. I gave myself 3 months max to just sit and do nothing. Boy I was wrong. I’m still enjoying myself.

My short term cash is running out yeah. Tipu la kalau tak, kan. Ingat duit aku macam air Coke kat Subway? Refillable? But hey, what the hell. I care no more. I wanna do what I wanna do. Currently, I wanna do nothing. And its pure fun. Nanti duit abis I keje ogeh? Hik hik.

There’s one thing I miss tho. No, not those accounts. Hell no. Balance sheet, profit&loss statement, trial balance, tax returns – these makes me sick *puke*. I miss wearing shirt and work pants and high heels. I miss looking like a working woman. People thought I’m a college student everywhere I go. Mmg la, dah ko lepak tgh2 hari buta, mane ade org keje kuar mase office hour ngok! Oh well, I think I look good in office attire.

Owh, theres another thing too. I miss looking at my bank account decreasing and increasing every month. A nice pattern to look at. Now it has been downhill eversince October. Asyik kurang je. Tak tambah2 pon.

Here's one thing.

I never bring any gifts when attending weddings.

Why?

Because theres thousand of gifts on the table. One missing wouldnt hurt.

Plus.

With thousands of wrapped boxes there, i doubt the newlyweds would even remember which is mine; neither would they appreciate it as much.

Maybe im a lil wrong with the appreciation part.

Our guest house in KB now is loaded with presents, gifts, boxes, hampers, envelopes. And believe it or not, my dad made my brother note down who gave what. Each and every one of them. They were all documented.

Still.

I dont bring gifts to wedding. Execption to group present. I have no issue chipping in for gifts. Just that shopping for presents isnt my thing.

Again.

With all the boxes left unattended at home, im thinking. If i were to get married one day, can i have this one line written on my wedding card "PLEASE CONTACT THE BRIDE-TO-BE FOR CONFIRMATION OF GIFTS. OTHERWISE, ONLY CASH IS ACCEPTED. THANKS."

This way, no gifts will be wasted and all will be highly appreciated. Its a win-win situation. Hik hik hik.

I love weddings so much I need a continuation for Mari Kawen.

Lets start with all those hantaran. Really, why bother? A handbag with-some-flowers-decorations-on-some-silver-dulang-with-some-ugly-laces-and-ribbons-given-on-the-wedding-day are no different to a handbag I bought off the shelves in KLCC probably the week after, rite? It will serves the same function, as much as will it look identical. So why bother?

Same goes to shoes, watch, make-up sets, cakes, etc. I still don't understand the simbolic of having all these. Say if I want to give a rm50,000 Chopard watch to encik suami, really, why can't I just buy one off the retailer and give it to him? On our wedding day, but when the ceremony's over, in the room off the closed door. Kenape kena tunjuk kat semua orang what I bought for him? Apekah faedahnye?

Sama macam duit hantaran. Kalau nak kasi RM1juta sekalipun; helo encik, pernah dengar Maybank2u? Or normal cheque would do. Why do I need to show the whole world?

Once, when I said I wouldn't need to use my brother's dulang hantaran for my wedding coz I will not have any; Mama told me "Ingat ni wedding koboi ke tanak hantaran?" As for me, on my defence, I'm telling you I'm trying to be more civilised than those cowboys out there that throws pointless ceremony; and gain nothing.

Ok fine, let's put it this way. Those girls, their dreams eversince they started thinking; is to be a princess one day. To look ~~like a drag queen~~ super-pretty and extravagant, to wear beautiful dress, and be the centre-of-attention. This is their satisfaction, their ultimate goal. Lets not talk bout the guys. I don't care what they think. I'm talking bout me. And me, my ultimate goal is ~~to travel to Africa and work in New York~~ different. I never want to look like princess. But I do want to get married and have a family. Just without the princess part.

I hate how people perceived the duit hantaran as the bride's value. Man, this photo is ancient. Mas and asma were still around. Back in 2004 i think. Photo frame was farewell gift from Dee. Well, really it was her going back to Msia for good, and she bought gifts for everyone. Sweet. And aneh too :p

This one is quite recent. Taken on my graduation ceremony on Valentine's Day 2008. The frame was again a gift. Doorgift for all the graduates that day. See the name engraved at the bottom part of the photo frame? It spells "Curtin Alumni" :)

Went back to Kay Bee (kena la eja camni, baru hip) last thursday night. Promised MamaHippo to teman her food tasting for Hilmee's wedding.

Appointment was on saturday afternoon. Husna and I had this thought of a long table full of food, then unleash the scavengers within dan berlari2 memakan makanan yang enak2. Sangkaan kami meleset. Food tasting itu rupanya ialah aktiviti merasa makanan yg sudah dipilih dan mengkomen kalau rasa dia tak enak.

The verdict:

Ikan goreng with plum sauce - Rase macam boleh suruh Husna goreng ikan tersebut dan mencurahkan sweet chilli sauce, dan garnish.
Dalca - Saye berjaya mencari 2 biji kacang dal di dalam kual dalca tersebut. Dan rasenye sedikit manis.
Ayam masak merah - Too sweet. Mungkin encik chef tgh emo dgn isteri dan telah menuang sebotol sos tomato ke dalam masakan tersebut.
Daging kerutuk - Keras nak mampos. Over-flavoured. Too much spice. Too salty too.
Udang sambal - BERJAYA!! Lazat.
Acar - Takde kaitan persaudaraan dgn lauk2 tersebut. Like "Hey, ape ko buat kat sini?"
Buah - Kaler pucat semacam je. Tak semenggah btol persembahan mereka.
Service - Lambat omaigod.

Overall, I wouldn't go for makanan yg sedap sampai menjilat kaki, that's totally tolerable. But I want good service. And most importantly, good price. I would bargain for less for that kind of food and service.

p/s: Tengskiu Abang Botak for teman me balik Kay Bee. And for driving all-the-way too :p

“Pernikahan itu hanyalah pintu kepada perkahwinan.” as quoted by Minn, while having dinner at Wendy's last night.

Minn got engaged last 2 weeks, and due to tie the knot by the first week of March next year. So yeah, we were talking about weddings and stuffs.

So back to the quote; pernikahan itu hanyalah pintu kepada perkahwinan. Kenape pintu nak grand, besar gabak, lip-lap segala, kalau rumah tu sendiri belum furnished pon, blom plan nak buat macam mana pon. Meaning there's so much ahead rather than the wedding ceremony itself. Agreed. Totally agreed.

Owh, before I even start going on this, I need to make it clear, I have nothing against marriage establishment, neither do I have anything against family institution. Really. Just the ceremony.

So, as known, most of people out there adopted this policy of “Kawen kan sekali je, once in a lifetime, biar la d'bomb”. As for me, “Kawen tu kan komitmen setiap hari, kenape yang satu hari tu yang kena tabur sume duit aku supaya aku nampak macam drag queen?” Rather than spending RM30,000 on a grand wedding, I'd rather spend it over monthly holidays once I'm married.

Yes, I admit, when I went crazy over saving my money and investments and all, I did said “Nak kumpul duit pasal nak kawen”. But hey, don't get my wrong. I didn't mean targetting RM50,000 in 2 years so I could get a super nice garden wedding or wearing Vera Wang or Tiffany's ring or even Patchi door gifts. Its more off, I need money so once I'm married, I can live comfortably, without being financially dependent on my other half. Kalau tibe2 laki aku kena buang keje, sape nak bayar loan rumah, bayar kereta, bayar bil letrik segala? Nak makan ubi kayu curik kat umah sebelah ke? Ngan tadah air hujan?

I cherish culture still. Adat dijunjung, as said, kan? But religion superseded culture. I'd stand on being a good Muslim a lot more than I would being a good Malay. And I still wonder why Malaysia banned yoga but not those merenjis thing in traditional Malay weddings? I'm no Islam expert but I know both stood on the same platform.

Why do I need to send fancy invitations cards and expensive door gifts when the guests are just gonna throw them away? Why do I need to send Hantaran and all when I can always give gifts to my husband anytime I want? Why do I need to make my wedding memorable to others when I gain nothing from it being unforgettable? What am I proving? Who am I competing with? Apologize, this is not my competition, not my expertise. You can run in your field, I'll run in mine. You won your race, I won mine. Fair and square.

Working your ass off for that one day, spending all your saving on that one moment, putting your efforts to make it your day. If this is how you define celebration of love, I shall respect you by all means. I'm just sharing my thoughts of MY WAY of celebrating love. I believe in simplicity, practicality, and necessity.

Why can't people just get married dan membuat cinta? Why the hassle? Defeats the purpose of marriage institution of simplifying the complexity and lending hands to each other. Blom pape dah bersusah-payah camne? This is like “Bersusah dahulu, bersusah kemudian”. The trouble hasn't even suppose to surface yet.

I stood by my words. Being different doesn't make me wrong.

Regardless of these, one thing I still hold onto is an excellent way to immortalize the day, mummified the memories – good photos that is. I swear I'm gonna spend a bomb on the-best- photographer-in-town on my wedding day (If I got married la. Macam takkan je. Damn la.)

I am one big girl with big huge macho camera. But one day i figured that big huge macho camera a.k.a Captain Pandora isn't much of a help for my ever-hunching posture. So I decided to buy myself a new mobile phone with camera resolution as good as high-end digital camera back in 2004.

Ok, fine. I lied.

Truth is, henfon rosak, beyond repairable. Tolong la perempuan kaya kerja dah 2 tahun lebih, pakai henfon passing dari adik perempuan yg kini dah berjaya pakai henfon super canggih. Hey, suke hati la! Ade aku mintak adik ko passing henfon ke? Kakak cantek emo disitu. So, finally. Like really finally. I mean it. FINALLY with capital F, I, N, A, L, L, and Y, Cik Wan Kembang Semangkuk pon akur pada takdir. Mungkin Tuhan lebih sayangkan Motorola tu. Maka, berlakulah pembelian Sony Ericsson G705.
